Can you share a bit about your professional background and what led you to pursue a career in physical therapy?

My work history is full of variety; through farm work, construction, reception at a PT clinic to now 6 years a licensed Physical Therapist I have always valued a strong work ethic. In my initial pursuit of a career in engineering I became intrigued with mechanical systems and the math/physics involved, but sought a different flow in the day to day and in switching my studies to a pre-physical therapy route I found PT is a wonderful blend of biomechanics and the many variables involved with the human condition.

Do you have any specific areas of specialization or interest within physical therapy? What drew you to those areas?

I enjoy seeing patients with orthopedic/musculoskeletal injury related to sport, trauma, work injury, age-related changes/degeneration both as a primary intervention as well as post-surgical rehabilitation. These injuries are common and allow me to play a role in the wellbeing of a large group of people.

How would you describe your approach to patient care and rehabilitation? What do you believe is essential for successful treatment?

I think one of the most important aspects of recovery is knowledge of your condition. Physical Therapists are great educators when provided the time and frequency to build a relationship with their patients. An informed patient is empowered, so keeping an open conversation throughout the plan of care is necessary.

What motivates you to work in physical therapy? Is there a particular moment or experience that solidified your passion for this field?

My motivation for this career started with the desire to learn more about the human body and help people as they heal and recover. Additional motivation comes from self maintenance, teaching my young children and supporting members of my community.

How do you like to connect with your patients? What do you think is most important in building a therapeutic relationship?

Good conversation and open communication go the distance in building a strong relationship working or otherwise.

How do you see yourself contributing to the local community through your work at Carbon Physical Therapy?

Keeping people moving. The easiest way to make recovery more difficult is to stop. Giving people options to stay moving as they recover is empowering and effective.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests? How do you like to stay active?

To stay active I like to hike/hunt with family and friends, home workouts of weight lifting/running and play pickup games of basketball and tennis. I like to take on extensive home DIY projects such as kitchen remodel, re-siding, windows and re-roofing.

What advice would you give to someone considering physical therapy for the first time?

Physical therapy looks different from case to case, sometimes a few sessions to learn about your condition can set you up with an excellent management strategy. Come armed with questions! We have knowledge that we want to share.
